Croatia and Venice onboard Azamara Pursuit

Azamara Pursuit – 7 Night Croatia Intensive Voyage by Barbara Bagnall

We arrived in Venice and were transferred by boat, right from the airport to the Kempinski Palace Hotel located on their own Private Island.

Kempinski PalaceWe were hosted at the hotel. It was beautiful on a private island with immaculate grounds and swimming pool.

They have their own private boat that did transfers on the half hour to St Marks Square. We went over to St Marks square for dinner the first night. It was nice–not too crowded because it was in the evening. The next day went back and it was very crowded with tourists.

We did a site inspection at the Hotel Baglioni Luna Hotel in Venice it is close to St Marks square, I would recommend this hotel. The Splendid hotel in Venice is very nice also, centrally located overlooking the canals. We had a  late check out and went back to the hotel to do our transfer by boat to our Azamara cruise.

One of the advantages of  a 700 passenger ship is that embarkation and disembarkation is easy. No waiting in lines for the restaurants. Service was above standard. The food was great. We had our breakfast served twice on the veranda. Azamara is mostly all inclusive. There is an additional cost for the internet, spa, tours and upgrading your beverage package if you want more varieties of wine, beer and hard alcohol. They also have an additional charge if you want to go to the Sanctum, which is a private area at the front of the ship with large jacuzzi and lounging chairs. This area is complimentary for guests staying in suite cabins. Otherwise, it is $180.00 for 2 people for the 7 day sailing.

The ship has self service laundry on deck 7 which is free to use and includes the detergent. There is live entertainment every evening.  The “White Night” event features entertainment, buffet and dancing. It was a good way to mingle with the other guests. Then there was an Amazing Azamara night where they take you to a live concert of some sort off the ship one evening.

The cruise was very port intensive stopping in Croatia only.  Dubrovnik is a walled City and has lots of charm. In Havar, we did a tour by boat of the blue, green caves. The water is crystal clear in Croatia and has the most beautiful islands. The last day we docked back in Venice and did an overnight on the ship.

The next morning we were off to Florence by train. We spent 2 nights at the St Regis Florence and were upgraded to the Presidential Suite, it was amazing. The breakfast and butler service were included. It was truly one of the nicest hotel experiences I’ve ever had.

St Regis Florence Dining

We did a site inspection and dinner at the Hotel Brunelleschi. It is located right across from the famous Duomo Museum. Florence is great for shopping, dining and seeing the museums.

We flew back to the US with one night at the London Heathrow airport. It was a wonderful trip and a great learning experience.
