Club Med Punta Cana: Something for Everybody

By Nancy Kivlen, Director of Leisure, Carefree Vacations

Upon arrival at the beautiful Punta Cana Club Med resort in the Dominican Republic, we are greeted by Genevieve a lovely young French woman who welcomes us to the resort. We sip our welcome drink and are whisked away to our rooms located in the newly built, beautiful Zen Oasis Adults Only section. It’s a tranquil five-star resort within a resort.

Our room is very modern, chic, decorated with a high tech feel. The bathroom has both a shower and a separate bathtub in an enclosed glass area, wonderful if you splash a lot and tend to get water everywhere. The closets are large, mirrored, with a “his and hers” section. The decorations are glass, gray and red with the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. The front patio has a sun bed to lay on and just beyond that is the beautiful Zen Oasis pool.

The beach at Club Med Punta Cana is beautiful: turquoise water, white powder sand. Just beyond the Zen Oasis beach is the five-star spa and to the north of the resort is the Cirque de Soleil section where guests can try out the trapeze and other acrobatic sports.

If you aren’t inclined to become an acrobat, there is plenty of other activities to engage in. There’s Segway tours, Bicycles, a Bocce Ball court, tennis court, basketball court not to mention all the water activities.

Each morning we kayaked and then took a boat out that Club Med offered to a beautiful reef for snorkeling. We saw sting rays, barracudas, puffer fish and much more. Club Med also offers Hobie Cats, Sun fish, and Paddle boards in addition to Kite surfing and windsurfing.

At the Zen Oasis area is a bar to fill up on cappuccinos, lattes, Mojitos, beer, water or soft drinks. They also offer light snacks. There is also a concierge desk that can make arrangements for whatever activities you want to do.

The restaurants were good and plentiful: Indigo offers a sit down menu where you are served breakfast, lunch or dinner on the beach. The larger buffet-style restaurants are La Samana, near the check in area and Hispanola on the water front. The buffets offer a wide variety for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is Bagels, salmon, omelets cooked to order, fresh fruit. Lunch and Dinner is everything from a wide variety of salads, bread, lunch meat, cheeses, fish, steak, pasta, Chinese and Japanese cuisine. The dessert buffet will have your mouth watering. You can choose to sit at your own table by yourself, or join others at a larger table. If you don’t want to be around all the ‘noise’, then there is an Adults-Only section to eat at.

The resort caters primarily to families with children. That’s why if you’re looking for tranquility, the Zen Oasis area is nice for adults only and provides you with peace and quiet.

There is an area of the resort set up for families or larger groups called The Trident. This area offers larger, luxury quarters for bigger families, one and two bedrooms and comes with privilege services such as your own bar area, pool, and concierge.

For activities, Club Med cannot be beaten, they also have a wonderful kids program and baby sitters that allow Mom and Dad to experience things on their own.

I would give Club Med Punta Cana a 5 Thumbs Up. It truly does have something for everyone.

And here’s a tip: Order their famous Chocolate Bread to take home with you. Your family and friends will thank you – it’s delicious.
