We arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica and stayed at the Presidente Hotel which is a very centrally located, nice 3-star resort.  The next day we flew from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez in the South Pacific region.  We transferred by boat over to the Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge.  It is situated on 165 acres of private reserve.  This area is one of the most biologically diverse places on earth and contains Central America’s largest remaining Pacific Coast rain forest.

The lodge included 3 meals daily.  We were seated family style to get to know the other guests that were staying at the lodge.  Electricity is provided by solar energy.  They have a solarium to dry the laundry and had a dryer for back up use.  The use of blow dryers is not allowed as they drain too much electricity.  The snorkeling and hiking are two of the most popular activities.  We traveled in the rainy season and it rained every afternoon and evening.  This resort is recommended for singles, couples and families.  It is truly getting back to nature.

We were then transferred by boat and taxi back to the Puerto Jimenez airport and flew back to San Jose.  Then from San Jose to Drake Bay, then by boat to Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge.  Corcovado Jungle Lodge sits on a prime location on the edge of Corcovado National Park, and offers luxury accommodations, first class service and exciting activities.  If you are looking for an authentic, remote and unforgettable vacation, you’ll find it here.  It is set above a palm fringed beach, in tropical gardens surrounded by 170 acres of pristine rain forest.  The bungalow accommodation is spaced throughout the garden for maximum peace and privacy. They include 3 meals a day and a happy hour from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.  I would recommend this resort for families.  We were then transferred by boat over to Drake Bay and then flew back to San Jose.  From San Jose we were transferred by a 5 1/2 hour van ride to the Caribbean side of Costa Rica to Puerto Viejo.

Le Cameleon Boutique Hotel is where we stayed.  The hotel offers upscale beach accommodations within the tropical forest of Puerto Viejo, Limon.  The 23 rooms sit around the pool surrounded by lush tropical gardens, across the street from its Beach Club.  The all white minimalist rooms are decorated with a touch of bright colors.  Breakfast was included. Puerto Viejo is a cosmopolitan, exciting and lively town in the South Caribbean.  This small town is in front of the Caribbean Sea and protected by the Talamanca Mountain Chain.  There are a lot of hotels, restaurants and bars to choose from.  The Le Cameleon is one of the nicer resorts to stay at in this area.

We were then transferred back to San Jose and stayed at the Grano de Oro boutique hotel.  The hotel is a true oasis in the heart of the city.  It was converted from a tropical Victorian mansion.  The 40 room hotel maintains the warmth and comfort of a private home with all the amenities of a fine hotel.  Restaurant Grano de Oro is one of San Jose’s finest dining establishments.

The next day we were picked up by Expediciones Tropicales Tour company.  The first stop was the Doka Coffee Estate where we had a typical Costa Rican breakfast and a tour of the coffee plantation.  The tour continued to Poas Volcano National Park, for a hike to the lookout point at the main crater and to Botos Lagoon.  Later, we headed on to the La Paz Waterfall Gardens to walk on a trail towards the spectacular waterfalls amidst the rain forest.

Other highlights of the tour are the rescue center, the birdhouse, the butterfly garden, monkeys, the hummingbird gallery and the jungle cats.  This experience concludes with a buffet lunch.  The trip was an adventure within Costa Rica, and certainly a memorable experience.

I’d love to help you plan your experience of a lifetime!
