Fiji, The Heart of the South Pacific, Part 2

The speedboat ride from Tokoriki took about 30 min to Likuliku (“meaning calm water”).  This is Fiji’s first and only resort with over-water bures.  A total of 46 bures (10 of which are over-water) with most of them lining the pristine beachfront and some with private plunge pools.  One evening we had a celebration of Fijian culture beginning with a cocktail hour where guests meet each other and the management of the resort followed by a singing and dancing performance by the local villagers. Semi-inclusive.  Adults only.  I liked this property very much and could not find any negatives. Fiji’s newest luxury escape.

We stopped at Malolo for an inspection which is a short boat ride from Likuliku.  45 ocean view bures, all of which have been recently renovated, pools re-done and dining areas refurbished.  This resort has an up to date contemporary feel while keeping the Fijian warmth.  Some units have 3 bedrooms and extra bunk beds which would be good for multi-generation family gatherings.  Separate pools for children and adults.  I really liked this property situated by golden coral sand beaches which would be good for more cost conscious clients.  From Nadi it is 45 min by speedboat or 10 min by seaplane.

35 acres of tropical gardens located on Fiji’s main island of Viti Levu.  Protected by a reef to create an aqua-blue ocean facing lagoon.  Natadola Beach has been voted as one of the best beaches in the world.  This property has something for everybody (great kids program with separate pools) and is noted for its award winning spa and its 18-hole championship golf course.  The property is massive in size and especially so after returning from the smaller more intimate properties. As previously mentioned, a good stay in Fiji would be a combination of Namale and the Intercontinental.

There are so many ways to describe Fiji and all of its attributes but basically to me, the essence of Fiji… its people, its culture, its diversity and natural beauty.  Conde Nast called the Fijians the “Friendliest People in the World” which is absolutely true.
