Del Mar Race Track and Thoroughbred Club   The Del Mar Thoroughbred club, "where the turf meets the surf," is an American horse-racing track located at the nearby Del Mar Fairgrounds with over 40 days of thoroughbred racing every summer season. Ladies bring your hats for Opening Day, the place to see and be seen from July through September.   San Diego Polo Club   Home to U.S.P.A. competitions such as the Rossmore Cup and the Spreckle's cup, the San Diego Polo club has one of the longest seasons in the country, May through October, and features some of the world's finest players and horses. Sunday's pre-game events include picnics, tailgating, children's activities and a complete food and beverage service.   Balboa Park   The nation's largest urban cultural park of over 1,200 acres and dubbed "The Smithsonian of the West," Balboa Park is home to 15 major museums, beautiful gardens and the San Diego Zoo. View the Dead Sea Scrolls, an exhibition of some of the world's greatest archaeological treasures including parchment and papyrus scrolls authored around 250 BCE to 68 CE. In addition, guests can now observe the park with a fascinating one-and-a-half-hour audio tour, available at the Park's Visitor's Center.   San Diego Wild Animal Park   Set foot inside the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park, located in North San Diego, and be transported to one of the most exotic places on earth. The 1,800 acre wildlife park is home to thousands of animals roaming together on the vast open plains. You can hand-feed a gentle giraffe, traipse through a Congo Fishing Village, get face-to-face with big cats at Lion Camp and walk a 2 mile back-country path on the Kilimanjaro Safari Walk. Throughout Journey into Africa glimpse the amazing variety of animals living on earth's largest continent and develop a new appreciation for just how huge a rhinoceros or buffalo is.   San Diego Zoo   The world-famous zoo features over 4,000 animals representing more than 800 species and subspecies of rare and endangered birds, mammals and reptiles. Observe exotic plants and explore the Ituri Forest, Giant Panda Research Station and the Polar Bear Plunge. The Monkey Trails exhibit is a habitat home to a variety of tropical rain forest inhabitants from the forest floor to the canopy. The Pony Room

The Pony Room is a favorite among locals and resort guests alike. In addition to a wide selection of locally brewed craft beers and 100 variations of tequila, the bar also serves one of the area's most impressive collections of high-end wines and hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind signature cocktails, such as the "Sassy Sangrita" with Herencia Blanco Tequila, Cointreau Noir and our house made sangrita.   But The Pony Room is more than just a bar, serving rustic American cuisine with simple dishes that are simply fresh, including Maine lobster sliders with preserved local lemon, herb aïoli and butter lettuce on brioche buns, and skirt steak asada tacos with a serrano citrus glaze. Dishes are uniquely presented on items like reclaimed wine barrel boards, cast iron and slate. Enclosed in brick and accented with leather and glass, the Wine Cave is home to our most valuable and rare fine wines.  Whether your occasion calls for a private intimate dinner or small formal reception, at Rancho Valencia we aim to provide just the right ambience for the most special occasions.  The Wine Cave is a stunning private dining room with an outdoor terrace overlooking our Eucalyptus Grove. Turn left at Rancho Valencia Drive, 0.4 miles.  From the Northeast Take Interstate 15 south. Exit at State Highway 56 W/Ted Williams Parkway. Keep right at the fork, follow signs for CA-56 West and merge onto CA-56 West. Take exit 3 for Carmel Valley Road. After 0.3 miles, turn right onto Carmel Valley Road. After 1.5 miles, turn left onto Rancho Santa Fe Farms Road. After 1.1 miles, take the second left onto Rancho Digueno Road. Drive 1.2 miles and turn right onto Rancho Valencia Road. Take the third left onto Rancho Valencia Drive, 0.5 miles.  From the East Take Interstate 15 north. Exit at Ted Williams Parkway/Highway 56 West. After 6 miles, take Exit 3 for Carmel Valley Road and turn right onto Carmel Valley Road. Drive 1.5 miles and turn left onto Rancho Santa Fe Farms Road. After 1.1 miles, take the second left onto Rancho Diegueno Road. After 1.2 miles, turn right onto Rancho Valencia Road, drive 0.5 miles and take the third left onto Rancho Valencia Drive.
