Ålesund Walking Tour – 3 Hours

The explanation for this is simple; the town burned to the ground during the Great Fire of 1904. Rebuilding the city took a full three years, aided by numerous local contributions and large donations from the German Kaiser Wilhelm II.
The city planners agreed on consistently using the contemporary style of architecture, Jugend style (also known as Art Nouveau). It is a style characterized by artistic playfulness, fetching inspiration from organic forms and shapes in nature.
This combination of fjords, mountains and a town centre built in so-called art nouveau-style are some of the factors that resulted in Ålesund pinching first place in a survey by the Norwegian daily newspaper Dagbladet. Larger cities like Bergen (second place) and Trondheim (fourth place) – perhaps more famous for their beauty – were not considered to be as scenic as Ålesund when the Norwegians themselves cast their votes.
Walking tour through the winding old city streets, you will learn about the town's historic past. The tour takes in the Art Nouveau houses in the town itself, taking a stroll in the magnificent central district that displays beautiful houses with numerous and elaborate towers, spears and ornaments.

Basis:

Private tour.

Duration:

3 hours.

Start / End:

City center Hotel or address.

Vehicle:

None.

Guide:

English-speaking. Trondheim City tour with Nidaros Cathedral and a hike to Gråkahallen Hill - 5 hours

During the first part of the tour (2 hs) you will experience Trondheim, strolling through the Old Town and passing by the main sights of the city: the Royal Residence, the Main Square and Nidaros Cathedral, the Old Town Bridge as well as the Historical Wharves.

The tour includes the visit of Nidaros Cathedral, the world’s northernmost Gothic cathedral. Built from 1070 over the tomb of St. Olav, the Viking king who brought Christianity to Norway, the cathedral was completed around 1300. The 172 steps to the top of the tower are dark and narrow, but the climb is well worth it because you will be rewarded with an unrivaled view of the city centre. You can visit the tower only in the summer season.

In the second part of the tour you will take a hike to Gråkahallen Hill. You will walk between 5-6 km, during 3 hs (including breaks) and enjoy great views of the landscape. This is suitable for people in fairly good shape, as you will walk uphill and downhill which requires some physical effort.

Basis

Private tour

Duration

5 hours

Start / End

City center Hotel or address.

Vehicle

1st class

Guide

English-speaking. Honningsvåg City Tour with visit to North Cape Hall, fishing villages and King Crab Safari - 6 hours

We start with a drive around Honningsvag and a visit to North Cape Hall where you will have the chance to explore the visitor centre on your own or follow our guide for a short tour of the facilities. For several hundred years, the North Cape, which is located at 71°10'21, has attracted people from every corner of the globe. The globe monument erected in 1978 has become the actual symbol for the North Cape. At present, Nordkapphall (North Cape Hall) is firmly ensconced on the massive cliff, 307 m above sea level, and marks the northernmost tip of Europe, representing the final frontier with the arctic sea.

In this tour you will also visit three fishing villages in Nordkapp municipality: Nordvågen, Skarsvåg and Gjesvær. Nordvågen is the largest one of the three, with a population of 500. Skarsvåg is the smallest of the three, with hardly 50 inhabitants, and it is also known as the northernmost fishing village in the world. During a short walk, our guide will tell a bit more about the history and life in a small fishing village. Gjesvær is known for its stunning view of Gjesværstappan, a well-known natural bird reserve, famous for its enormous colony of puffins. The road to Gjesvær provides stunning vistas of the Arctic tundra, and in some places even resembles a lunar landscape.

We end the day with a King Crab Safari. At our scenic fjord location in Sarnes, our guide will provide a presentation about the life, history, anatomy and industry of the king crab. You will have the chance to hold and photograph a live specimen, before we serve them a meal of freshly cooked king crab.

Basis

Private tour

Duration

6 hours

Start / End

City center Hotel or address.

Vehicle

1st class.

Guide

English-speaking.
