Split and Salona tour
Your personal English-speaking guide will be waiting for You at the Split Harbor for a Split sightseeing tour highlighting most amazing Ancient features following the drive to archeological site of the roman city Salona.
Two locations, glorious at the time when the Romans ran the show, still testify to the greatness of that ancient civilization. Diocletian's Palace in Split - included on UNESCO's World Heritage List - is a unique monument in the world. Where else can you find a retirement home/palace of a Roman emperor? After the fall of the Roman Empire life went on in Split.
Time went on and the different nations conquered this area but the Roman architecture survived along with all the architectural additions of the centuries that followed. Salona is a different story. The archeological site of what once was the greatest city of this Roman province called Dalmatia remains full of the Roman spirit. Take a walk among the ruins of the basilicas where Christianity blossomed. There are sarcophagi and gravestones to be found every step of the way, an amazing amphitheater and so much more. The cuisine is neither spicy nor bland, but rich in the flavours of the Mediterranean. Many dishes hark back to the days when cooks put all the ingredients in a single pot and left it to simmer all day.

Today’s excursion starts with the Old Town of Corfu, where you may enjoy a walking tour of this UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. You will discover the town’s beautiful sites such as Saint Spyridon Church, dedicated to the protector of the island, the charming narrow Venetian alleyways, the famous Esplanade, one of the largest squares in Europe, the elegant Liston where access in the past was only allowed to the aristocracy of Corfu who were written down in the “Libro d’Oro’’, the Dimarcheio, or Town Hall, and the imposing Palace of St Michael and St George. After exploring Corfu historical center take a stroll through the local market.

Your tour continues with a scenic drive through the countryside to Triklino Vineyard, also known as Ambelonas Corfu, which is situated in Pelekas upon a hill with a panoramic view of central Corfu. Here local varieties of grapes are grown around a building of local architecture, in which traditional oil and wine production tools are displayed.

Upon arrival you will be welcomed with herbal soft drink. Giardini Naxos: Syracuse & Ortigia Island - 8 hours

The city of Syracuse, birthplace of Archimedes, was once described by Cicero as: "the greatest Greek city and the most beautiful of them all." What began as a small Greek outpost would eventually become one of the most prosperous and powerful states in the entire ancient world.

From here take a short drive to the Neapolis to visit the Greek theatre, one of the most important examples of ancient theatre architecture in the world and once the centre of Siracusan life. Testament to its stature, it is said that famous Greek playwright Aeschylus once premiered works here. Sights also include the Roman Amphitheatre and the Latonia del Paradiso, the impressive ancient stone quarries and caves - the most famous of which was named "the Ear of Dionysius" by Caravaggio for its peculiar acoustic qualities.

Your driver will meet you at the port and bring you into Rome where your expert guide will meet you. Begin your tour on Capitoline Hill and visit one of the oldest museum complexes in the world; the Capitoline Museums, originally founded by Pope Sixtus IV in 1471. Capitoline Hill has been a seat of religious or political power throughout the centuries, making it the most important of the “seven hills” of Rome. It was here that the most important temple in town, dedicated to Jupiter, the king of the gods, was built. See the ruins of the Temple of Jupiter and marvel at the magnificent bronze equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius at Campidoglio Square.
Continue up along the Via Veneto to the elegant Villa Borghese, accompanied by your local expert guide and private vehicle.
