On this excursion, you’ll enjoy the Pack Creek Brown Bear Sanctuary under the expertise of your private guide. The viewing area is approximately 60 yards from the creek, and we keep our distance to ensure true wilderness experiences going forward. Highlights:
On this adventure, you’ll head to Admiralty Island via floatplane and kayak—making for a journey as exciting as the bear-viewing itself. Located 30 air miles from Juneau, Admiralty Island is known to the native Tlingit people as “Kootznoowoo,” meaning “Fortress of the Bear.” Indeed, at almost 100 miles long with 700 miles of saltwater shoreline and a million acres of old-growth rainforest, it is home to the highest concentration of brown bears in the world—more than all the lower 48 states combined. Your journey begins with a 25-minute scenic floatplane flight to Windfall Island. From there, board your sea kayak and paddle to the edge of either Pack Creek or Windfall Harbor, where the wildlife sanctuary provides protected habitat for brown bears while affording visitors an opportunity to view and photograph wildlife close-up. Your guide will choose the best spot to view the bears; romping in the meadows, catching salmon in secret alcoves, or swimming in the creeks, rivers, and streams. Afterwards, you’ll kayak back to Windfall Island for the floatplane trip back to Juneau.

Sitka: Wild Coast Paddle and Cruise (8 Hours)
If you thrive on adventure, if you hunger for wild places and endless views, if you love to explore at whatever pace suits your mood; a full-day Wild Coast Paddle & Cruise will be the highlight of your time in Alaska.
There is no such thing as a “typical” Wild Coast Paddle & Cruise – like snowflakes, no two are the same – and your paddling guide will help to design a route plan that suits your preferences as well as it fits the day’s sea and weather conditions.  Your adventure will either begin or end with an exciting one-hour cruise aboard our sturdy transport vessel.  Use of the shuttle boat allows you to explore almost twice as much of the Sound in the same amount of time.
No matter what route we paddle, the scenery will be amazing.  Sitka Sound is bordered by hundreds of untouched coves, inlets and narrow passages, each containing their own secrets waiting to be discovered.  And the waters of the Sound are sprinkled with almost countless un-named islands and reefs.  This is the perfect sea kayaking environment, and you’re certain to explore some areas inaccessible by any other means.  Few activities can match the experience of gliding silently across the canopy of a kelp forest – the clear waters revealing views of undersea gardens and marine life, while seals bask on the rocks and curious sea otters poke their little flat heads as high as possible out of the water to get a better look at you.  There is also a very good chance of sighting steller sea lions or humpback whales.
At the half-way point in our voyage we’ll step ashore on a seldom visited island to stretch our legs, do a little beachcombing, and enjoy a delicious picnic lunch.  The total paddling time on our full-day exploration is 5-6 hours, in which time we’ll travel about 6-8 miles, depending on your preferences.  Although it’s not a strenuous activity, we recommend the full-day paddle only for those who are in good physical condition.

Seeing bears in their natural habitat is a highlight of any trip to Alaska, but the opportunities are limited for cruising visitors—so we designed this private and exclusive adventure for you. Anan Creek is an ancient Tlingit native fishing site that has the largest pink salmon run in Southeast Alaska, attracting significant numbers of black and brown bears to feast on the bounty—it’s one of only a few places in the world where you can view both. Flying by private floatplane deep into Tongass National Forest, you’ll land on serene Anan Bay. From there, your naturalist guide will escort you on a half-mile hike along a boardwalk to a secure bear observatory overlooking a waterfall. From the viewing platform, you can look down on the fast flowing creek as it cascades towards the sea and large numbers of salmon head upstream to spawn. It’s no surprise that bears congregate here! Restricted access to the area, combined with interpretation by your bush pilot and guide, enhance this truly intimate experience.

Tour can operate:
Anytime while in port.

Inclusions:
All transportation, permits, roundtrip floatplane flight and guided tour into the Observatory.

Please Note:
For most reliable bear viewing, this tour is offered only from early July to mid-late August. Space is regulated by USFS permits – book early to get your spot!
