Puerto Montt Guided Sightseeing Option:
Meet your expert local guide for the drive to Frutillar & Puerto Octay.

farmers in the area, so you can observe the agricultural and livestock

Puerto Montt: The Llanquihue Lake Experience - 6 hours
HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS EXCURSION
- The town of Puerto Varas
- The Settlers Museum in Frutillar
- Angelmó Handicrafts Market in Puerto Montt
DESCRIPTION
This excursion takes in the main attractions of Puerto Montt and the nearby towns of Puerto Varas and Frutillar, both located on the shores of Lake Llanquihue, with spectacular views of the snow-capped Osorno Volcano.
Puerto Montt was founded in 1853 by German immigrants and their stalwart promoter Vicente Pérez Rosales, who named the town after another promoter of immigration, President Manuel Montt. The waterfront here was rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of 1960, which had destroyed the city's port, church, and neighbourhood of Angelmó. Today it is the capital of Chile's Southern Lake District, a thriving city that invests heavily in salmon farming, shipping, and tourism. Puerto Montt is commercially and strategically very important to this region. Settled by German colonists in the mid-19th century, it features middle-European architecture, with high-pitched, redwood-shingled roofs and ornate balconies.
On leaving the port there will be a short visit of the Angelmó Handicrafts market located just a few minutes walk from the dock gates, before continue through the centre of the city for a glimpse of highlights such as the redwood cathedral on the city's plaza, which is the city's oldest building, dating back to 1856. Continue to the town of Puerto Varas for an orientation tour and enjoy the opportunity to take a photograph across the waters of the Llanquihue to one of the regions icons; the mighty Osorno Volcano. Puerto Varas is one of Chile's most charming towns, not only because of its privileged lakeside location, but also because of its quaint, German-influenced architecture, and its friendly, laid-back atmosphere. The city was built by the sweat and tenacity of German immigrants, and later it became a port for goods being shipped from the Lago Llanquihue area to Puerto Montt (mostly timber). Today most of the area's middle- and upper-middle-class residents call Puerto Varas home and commute to Puerto Montt and other surrounding places for work.
Along the trip we will do a short stop to enjoy the delicious local beer, Drakkar and Colonos; we will also visit the brewery to learn how they produce it. Our host will be the owner who will explain us the process.
Continue to the historic town of Frutillar. Founded in 1856 by German settlers, this is one the most charming towns in Chile. A visit will be made to the Settlers Museum, which features a collection of 19th-century antiques, clothing, and artefacts gathered from various immigrant German families around the area. There will also be a visit to the Teatro del Lago Concert Hall, an open-air venue that is gaining prestige on both a national and international level, and which is home to Frutillar’s famous Music Festival. Once an event for local and regional artists, this annual festival now draws international performers.
Light lunch will be served at “Lavanda Casa de Té”, an old barn where Opa Pancho spended many hours dedicated to one of his hobbies, mechanic; today, it has been turned into an exclusive tearoom immersed in lavender plantation. Among aromas, flavors and memories of an unforgettable time, we will taste the finest flavors of tea accompanied by the best local pastry
After light lunch return to Puerto Montt, stopping briefly at an observation point for a view across Tenglo Bay with the ship in port.
Operational notes :
Duration : 6.15 hours
Level of activity : Easy.
Meal plan : Light lunch & mineral water
Travelers will be transferred from the pier to the excursion site.

Puerto Montt: A Journey into Chile's Oldest National Park - 4 hours
HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS EXCURSION
- The Petrohué Rapids
- The town of Puerto Varas
- Puerto Montt and the Angelmó Market
DESCRIPTION
This excursion takes in the main attractions of Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas, and the Petrohué Rapids, one of southern Chile’s most beautiful attractions.
Departing from the pier, the drive heads directly to one of the most famous beauty spots in Chile’s Lake District; Petrohué Rapids. The scenic journey follows the road to the village of Alerce, with views of charming wooden houses and churches, pristine farmland, and lush green forest, before taking the road that skirts Lake Llanquihue.
The arrival to the village of Ensenada, at the foot of the Osorno Volcano, marks the entrance to the oldest National Park in Chile; the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park. Founded in 1926 it covers an area of 251,000 hectares (619,970 acres), incorporating the park's centrepieces Lake Todos los Santos, the Petrohué Rapids, and three commanding volcanoes; Osorno, Calbuco, and Puntiagudo.
The mighty Petrohué is one of Chile’s most beautiful and exciting glacial rivers, and your guests will marvel at the spectacular scenery of ancient forests, waterfalls and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and volcanoes. Upon arrival to the rapids, one can enjoy the spectacle of the inky-green waters as they crash through lava channels formed after the eruption of the Osorno in 1850.
Head back west in the direction of Puerto Varas, where a short stop will be made. This tidy little town, with its lovely architecture and bustling centre, is mainly residential and thrives on tourism thanks to its grand setting on Lake Llanquihue and proximity to the nearby National Parks. Here there will be an opportunity to take a photograph or two across the waters of Lake Llanquihue to the mighty Osorno Volcano. The city was built by the sweat and tenacity of German immigrants, and later it became a port for goods being shipped from the Lago Llanquihue area to Puerto Montt (mostly timber). Punta Arenas: Exploring the End of the World - 3.5 hours
HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS EXCURSION
- A visit to the Braun-Menendez Regional Museum.
- Cocktail and canapés at the De La Cruz hill
- The municipal cemetery and the tomb dedicated to the Ona Indians.
DESCRIPTION
This city tour begins with a visit to the southern sector of Punta Arenas where we’ll visit the eerie wreckage of the Lord Longsdale ship and the local market.
Afterwards we’ll head back to Old Town Punta Arenas. Here its European architecture, public buildings, main square and gardens with their varied styles denote wealth and luxury that existed in the city during the "golden era" between 1880 and 1914, when Punta Arenas was one of the most active ports of the Southern Cone.
The visit will continue to the Braun-Menendez Regional Museum, the former residence of Maurice Braun and Josefina Menendez, a marriage that united the two largest fortunes in the region of Magallanes. With the falling price of wool and the nationalization of the farms during the 1970's, the family lost most of their wealth and their descendants have since moved from Patagonia to the rest of world.
Moving from downtown towards the North, we’ll arrive at the Mount La Cruz panoramic point. It offers a beautiful view of the city, with its colorful roofs spreading up to the strait and showing the landscape of Tierra del Fuego, Mount Sarmiento and the southern area of the Brunswick Peninsula. Before continuing will take a few minutes to make a toast enjoying this unique view and brilliant photo stop.
To end this excursion we’ll take you to the beautifully landscaped Municipal Cemetery. Here, one can admire the splendid mausoleums of pioneer families as well as a tomb dedicated to the Unknown Ona, the now extinct Fireland Indians. They say you can't really understand a culture until you see where they bury their dead, and in the case of the cemetery of Punta Arenas, this edict certainly rings true. The Municipal Cemetery was opened by the Governor Señoret in 1894 and features a giant stone portico donated by Sara Braun in 1919. Inside this necropolis lies a veritable miniature city, with avenues that connect the magnificent tombs of the region's founding families, settlers, and civic workers and a rather solemn tomb where lie the remains of the last Selk'nam Indians of Tierra del Fuego.

Punta Arenas - A day on a Patagonian Ranch - 5 hours
HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS EXCURSION
- The local fauna
- Typical Patagonian lunch
DESCRIPTION
This journey begins as we take off from the city towards the north. Once leaving Punta Arenas enjoy the scenery of the pampas and Patagonian steppe; rheas may be seen alongside hundreds of sheep.
In 1852 Bernard E. Philippi brought some sheep from Chiloé (island across Puerto Montt) and in 1877 the governor Double Diego Almeyda traveled to the Falkland Islands and brought 300 sheep that were sold in Punta Arenas. The following year other traders brought more sheep, and thus began the business of farming and today represent one of the main economic activities in the region. The principal landowners were English and Scots, who knew the handling of sheep and the necessary infrastructure.
Rio Penitente farm was founded by Alexander Morrison, a Scottish pioneer in 1891. Today his descendants are in charge, and will be here to welcome visitors to their charming ranch to explore their facilities, discover the traditional work around the farm, and watch the sheep working dogs and a sheep shearing exhibition.
The comfortable old-world setting provides sharp contrast with the raw beauty of the beech forest and open pampas of the surrounding Patagonian Landscapes. The clear water of Rio Penitente, flowing through the farm, offers excellent trout fishing.
For lunch an exquisite Patagonian barbecue will be served at the main dinning room.

It also boasts information about the regional fauna and mineralogy as well as the Antarctica. Afterwards, continue to the cemetery with its beautiful gardens and huge cypress trees. Meet your local guide at local pier and start with your visit.
Tierra del Fuego National Park is the southernmost protected natural area of Argentina and runs for almost 7 km along the Beagle Channel. A rugged territory and successions of steep mountains, with rivers running through deep valleys and many lakes, make up the varied landscape.
Created by the Argentine government in the year 1960 to protect the southernmost sub-Antarctic forests, Tierra del Fuego National Park is the country's only park with an ocean shoreline. It offers historical and wild attractions, and borders with Chile to the West and the Beagle Channel to the South.
It boasts a typical glacial landscape, with a mountainous area and deep valleys washed by rivers and lakes, and mountains ranging from the North West to the South East.
There are numerous pedestrian crosswalks in this National Park starting at different points along Route Nº 3 and reaching wonderful places:
Island Walk - The 800 m track crosses part of the Cormorant Archipelago up to Green Lagoon. It runs along the banks of the Lapataia and Ovando rivers.
Negra Lagoon Track - 400 meters away from the Park, its dark colored waters are due to the presence of big peat mosses.
Lapataia Vantage Point Walk - An alternative access option to Lapataia Bay, after a 500-meter walk, through the lenga forest, a scenic pathway affords a striking view of the bay, and winds down to its shore.
Peat Bog Walkway - 400 meters away from Lapataia Bay, along the way through lenga forests may be seen abandoned beaver dams.

Buenos Aires - 2019 Private Car & Driver Guided Sightseeing (4 Hour) - Provided by Argentina Activa
Buenos Aires Guided Sightseeing Option:
Meet your expert local guide for the drive to Buenos Aires. Your journey begins at Plaza de Mayo, the city’s foundational site and an important witness to the country’s political history. You will visit the Pink House, the Presidential Palace, the Cabildo, the colonial town hall, and the neoclassical-style Metropolitan Cathedral, final resting place of Argentina’s founding father, General José de San Martín.
Then you will head for San Telmo, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. It was the residential district of the Buenos Aires “aristocracy” until the late 19th Century when a yellow fever epidemic caused the wealthier families to move northwards. The area was marginalized until the 1970s, when many artists and artisans came to install their workshops. Nowadays, thanks to its amazing architecture and convenient location, this classic neighborhood has undergone a process of gentrification and is blooming. Walk its cobbled streets, where the city’s colonial past seems to come back to life, and make a stop at Plaza Dorrego, best known for its traditional antiques fair.
Continue southwards to La Boca, one of the city’s most authentic and charming neighborhoods. It is a working-class district, heavily shaped by Italian immigrants who came to the country in large numbers during the last quarter of the 19th Century. The neighborhood’s colorful buildings and its characteristic tenement houses reflect the cheerful spirit of the Italian community. La Boca is being renovated, and more and more artists and TV producers are choosing this neighborhood to set up their workshops and studios. Here, you will make a special visit to Caminito Street, which embodies everything that gives La Boca its distinctive spirit: the strong passion for soccer, the heavy presence of art and color, and the tango atmosphere.
Next, head back north across the river and pay a visit to Puerto Madero, a port district that contrasts the other neighborhoods. Puerto Madero is the result of an ambitious urban project, which began in 1991 and renovated more than 170 hectares of an abandoned port area, transforming it into the city’s new international district and at the same time accomplishing an old dream: integrating the river and the city. The huge warehouses and grain storage buildings have been renovated and redesigned to create a new business, residential, hotel and gastronomic neighborhood.
Finally, you will visit La Recoleta to the north which is in sharp contrast with the neighborhoods in the south of Buenos Aires. Here you will learn about the dream of the local aristocrats in the late 19th early 20th Centuries, when they sought to build a small-scale Paris in the heart of Buenos Aires. After visiting the impressive Plaza San Martín, and admiring the sumptuous Belle Époque palaces, which contrast with the modern concrete mass of the Kavanagh Building, Latin America’s first skyscraper, walk down
Avenida Alvear, chosen by the world’s most distinguished brands to locate their exclusive boutiques. You will see the many wonderful French style palaces which nowadays house many embassies. Once in Plaza Francia, visit the Basílica de Nuestra Seńora del Pilar, one of the city’s oldest churches, which dates to the colonial era. Lastly, you will admire the celebrated Recoleta Cemetery, resting place of the most important characters of Argentina’s history and political and cultural life. You will make a stop at Eva Peron’s grave, one of the country’s most recognizable icons.
Your tour will conclude at the pier.

Casablanca - 2019 Private Car & Driver Guided Sightseeing (8 Hour) - Provided by A&K Morocco
Casablanca
Guided Sightseeing Option:
Meet your expert local guide for the drive to Casablanca. Depart the pier
and proceed to the awe-inspiring Hassan II Mosque. The Mosque is the
second-largest mosque in the Islamic world. This magnificent building is
both overwhelming in its grandeur and exquisite in its detail.
The Mosque can hold 25,000 people and the foundations are built partly on
land and partly over the water. Some of the ceilings are over 200 feet tall
(70 meters), and a part of this amazing and sacred building has a
retractable roof. The construction of the Mosque began in 1980 and was
completed in 1993. It is the only mosque in Morocco where non-Muslims are
permitted to enter inside. This law dates to a French governor of Christian
origin who passed the law to ensure that none of his countrymen
inadvertently offended the local Muslim communities by entering mosques
without following the correct protocol – this law still stands today.
From here you depart to another viewpoint of the mosque. Looking along the
coastline of the city the towering mosque appears to float on the sea.
After re-boarding your vehicle, drive through the elegant residential
district of Anfa, the original site of Casablanca, and a far cry from the
hustle and bustle of this large commercial city.
Continue to Villa des Arts for an inside visit. The villa is in a converted
art deco building with a pleasant garden near the Parc de la Ligue Arabe.
This gorgeous 1930s gallery holds exhibitions of contemporary Moroccan and
international art.
The morning concludes at the famous Ricks Café, the saloon from the 1942
film “Casablanca”. Set in an old courtyard-style mansion built against the
walls of the Old Medina, the restaurant–piano bar is filled with
architectural and decorative details reminiscent of the film. Savor the
elegant atmosphere while enjoying a delicious lunch on your own.
After lunch, you will continue to the Abderrahman Slaoui Museum which
belongs to a business man who loved the arts. The museum is set up in a
charming art deco building dating from the 1940’s, it is dedicated to
Moroccan jewelry and decor. The Museum contains a unique collection of
antique jewelry, vintage posters by great artists like Dinet, Majorelle and
De La Neziere, and miniatures. The museum also boasts 19th Century Bohemian
crystal boxes, illuminations and other objects collected from around the
world. Visiting Slaoui’s Museum is like retracing the steps of a world
traveler.
Your next stop is the New Medina, or 'Habbous Quarter' for a short stroll
through this historic part of the city, lined with souks, shops, and a
warren of alleyways. Also, here you will have the opportunity to admire the
Royal Palace.
Your tour will conclude at the pier.

At Casablanca's New Medina, a modern development in a traditional style, you will view the outside of the magnificent Royal Palace and the Regional Law Courts. The highlight here will be an inside visit to the Great Mosque (Hassan II Mosque). This phenomenal building is the world's third-largest mosque and it was built to commemorate the former king's 60th birthday, opening in 1993. It is the only mosque in Morocco where non-Muslims are allowed to enter inside. We depart the quayside for our guided drive to the city of Rabat. Sitting on the Atlantic coastal plain Rabat is the capital city of Morocco. Tangier or Tangiers (Tanja
in Berber and Arabic, Tánger in Spanish, and Tanger in French), is a city of
northern Morocco. It lies on the North African coast at the western entrance
to the Strait of Gibraltar where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic Ocean
off Cap Spartel. It is the capital of the Tangier-Tétouan Region.
Tingis is an ancient Phoenician
town. According to Berber mythology, Tangier was built by the son of Tinjis,
named Sufax. Tinjis was the wife of the Berber hero Antaios. There are other
versions of Tangiers founding - Greek legend ascribes its foundation to the
giant Antaeus, whose tomb and skeleton are pointed out in the vicinity, or to
Sufax, son of Hercules by the widow of Antaeus. The cave or grotto of Hercules
is only a few miles from the city. Hercules slept there before attempting one
of his 12 labours.
When Morocco became a French
protectorate in 1912 the future of Tangier was still a matter of controversy.
France, England and Spain decided to look for an acceptable compromise. On December
18, 1923, Tangier was declared an international zone , controlled by eight countries
and monitored by a Mendoub (Sultan's representative), where political and military
neutrality was compulsory and where there was complete economic freedom.
We start the tour driving
thgrough the hill with its splendid villas, the Governor's residence and the
King's Summer Palace to Cap Spartel where the Atlantic and the Mediterranean
meet. After a visit and a photo stop leave for Hercule caves and continue to
the city center. The small flatroofed houses, the sprawling bazaars, the prayer
towers, the bearded men in their flowing robes and the veiled women, yes suddenly
you are immersed in Eastern culture. During the course of the day you will have
the opportunity to ride a camel, watch a snake charmer and visit the Kasbah
and its Mosque and the Zooks which are Arab markets where you can bargain over
prices of leather goods, brass, pottery, jewellery, rugs, carpets, blanquets
and other locally made merchandise.

Tetouan is situated in
the midst of greenery. A belt of orchards, planted with orange, almond, pomegranate
and cypress trees, encompasses dazzlingly white houses that cling to the Dersa
hillside. Nearby the somber, dim Rif Mountains emphasize the pleasant colours
of the urban site that dominates the fertile Martil Valley.
Founded around 1305 by the
Merinid Abou Tabit, the town served as a base for operations against Sebta (Ceuta)
and later became a pirates lair. The town was repopulated in the 16th century
by the Moslems and the Jews who had been chased away from Andalusia.
The Christian reconquest
of Spain came to its conclusion when Granada fell in 1492. Large numbers of
Muslims and Jews who were driven out of the city and made homeless crossed the
straits into Africa, settled in Tetouan and rebuilt the town. Architecture in
Tetouan is a harmonious and fascinating blend of Arabic and Spanish styles reflecting
the town's bicultural ancestry. Spanish culture still plays a significant part
in the life of the city. Andalusian music has remained dominant and trade with
Ceuta, the Spanish town situated in North Africa and located 30 minutes drive
from Tetouan. In 1913 Tetouan became the capital of Spain's protectorate until
independence in 1956.
Leaving the former international
city of Tangier, drive through the fertile countryside over a narrow pass in
the hills to arrive at Tetouan. Visit the Kasbah, walled Medina, the Museum,
the Souks, the Handicrafts school and watch the snake charmer. Refreshment will
served and at lunch, enjoy a typical folklore music show and one of the many
national dishes of Morocco like Harira and Kuskus.

The Romans gave the name of "Lacobriga" to the town of Lagos but its natural river port would indicate very much earlier occupation. The Moors then gave the town the name of "Zawaia" It was captured from the Moors in 1189 but it was not until 1249 that it was finally conquered by Dom Afonso III and integrated into the kingdom of Portugal with the name of "Lagus". This historic town has played an important part in the story of discovery of many parts of the world. It was from the harbour that Vasco da Gama sailed in 1499 on his historic and epic voyage of discovery. Lagos was the capital of the Algarve from 1578 until 1756 and there remain several ancient buildings to testify to its historic glory.
Lagos is now an important tourist town with many architectural signs of its ancient past, even a building dating originally back to around 1445 which is recorded as being Europe's first building used as a slave market. The walls of the town in the most part remain after sections were restored. Attached to the famous 17th Century "gold" church of Santo António there is a small museum of regional items, some of which are quite odd! The town's more recently constructed Marina presents a lovely picture and this harbour is practically the first sight a visitor has of Lagos. There are several interesting statues erected to the famous figures of the past that are associated with the history of this town.
We drive to Vila do Bispo a very small administrative town for the Sagres area, the later being the most south-west corner of Europe! This area is a must for every visitor to the Algarve as it presents a very impressive and dramatic sight of towering sheer cliffs being beaten by the weight of the vast Atlantic Ocean. It is from here that Prince Henry sat and planned the several epic voyages of discovery that enlarged the known world of that time.
Sagres is close to the most south western point of Europe known as Cape St. Vincent. The legend of the martyr Saint Vincent is that his relics were mysteriously transported by ravens from the Holy Land to the Cape and subsequently guarded by them. The small chapel of Nossa Senhora da Graça and reputably the giant pebble wind compass, Rosa dos Ventos. The present walls surrounding the area are the remains of a 17th Century fort. At the nearby Cape St Vincent is an impressive lighthouse that can normally be visited.

Silves was once the capital of the whole district and was still referred to in the beginning of the 19th Century as the "Kingdom of the Algarve". Evidence shows that it was already a place of note in Roman times but it really became an important place during its occupation in the early 11th Century by the Moors. Giving it the name of Xelb, they constructed lavish palaces and created a cultural centre of learning for the whole Iberian Peninsular. Although it was important as a town it still fell under the mantle and control of Cordoba in Spain. It is recorded that in 1189 there were over 15.000 inhabitants when the Knights of Santiago sacked the city with the assistance of the Anglo-Norman Crusaders. Two years later it was retaken by the Caliph Ben Yussef. In 1242 that it was again under the control of the Portuguese Kings.
The impressive remains of the castle dates back to Moors and there is a impressive underground water reservoirs that are still used by the city today. As a reminder of the Romans occupation is the Ponte Romana, a fine strong bridge over the Rio Arade below the city walls and having been rebuilt from the original in the 15th Century. The city's earlier 13th Century Cathedral was built on the site of a Mosque and has suffered considerable alteration over the centuries.
Monchique lies in the saddle created by the two high hills, Foia and Picota, the former reaching to 902 metres above sea level. As with "mountain" people the world over the 10,000 inhabitants of this town have retained its rustic atmosphere with steep cobbled streets and small dark doorways housing various artisan trades.
There is a very neglected 17th~Century Franciscan monastery which overlooks the town from which a visitor enjoys a panoramic view over the beautiful countryside. The 16th Century Parish Church has excellent examples of Manueline craftsmanship around its doorway. The surrounding area flourishes on the production of cattle, pigs, cork and wood. Another important local product is the popular "medronho", which is the name of a strong schnapps style of drink made from distilling the fruit from arbutus bushes.

Faro is the administrative centre for the whole of the Algarve region. The city has both Arab and Roman ruins but most of the present attractive older buildings were constructed after the disastrous earthquake of both 1755 and 1532. The Moors who occupied the town in the 8th Century originally gave the city it the name of Ossónoba and developed it into a trading port until 1249. They were then defeated by the forces of Dom Afonso III. During the 500 years of Moorish occupation there were some Jewish inhabitants in Faro who were kept busy printing copies of the Old Testament.
Particularly attractive is the old part of the city surrounded still by the Roman walls which date back to the 9th. Inside a spacious open square that was once the site of the Roman Forum is a 13th Century Cathedral that faces the 18th Century Episcopal palace. An interesting building is the neighbouring 16th Century Convent that is now turned into the home of the city’s archaeological museum. The "golden" church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo is claimed to be the best example of gold-leaf woodwork in southern Portugal.
Next to the small boat basin bordering the Praça de Dom Francisco Gomes is a small Naval Museum composed of scale model boats and galleons showing the maritime history of the coast. Faro is also the home of the Ria Formosa lagoon, a nature reserve of over 17.000 hectares and a stopping place for hundreds of different birds during the spring and autumn migratory periods.
The Olhao fishermen’s district is a nice place to visit, where you can see the whitewashed houses, some of them with tiles and flat roofs. Here, narrow streets cover the district and its possible to see the Moorish influence. If the visitor climbs to the bell tower of Nossa Senhora do Rosario church, they can contemplate all the city.
The fishermen's quarter is located between the quay on the Ria Formosa and the earth of the city defined by the main church. The streets that border the Avenida da República, itself a symbol of the urban development that took place at the turn of the century, reflect a city of industrials and ship-owners who grew rich from the fish processing business and trade, displaying their wealth by decorating their homes with verandas, tiles, carved stonework and wrought iron.
Tavira has a really nice old city centre made up by a labyrinth of streets with beautiful pavements. The centre hides gardens and wooded squares, churches, and worth-to-visit mansions. Visit the Misericordia church built between 1541 and 1551 and considered the most important Renaissance building in Algarve. The city also has a small fishing port.

The castle of Sao George is located on one of the seven hills of Lisbon, to the east of the Baixa. In the context of the Christian Reconquista the castle and the city of Lisbon were retaken from the Moors by King Alfonso Henriques with the help of Northern European crusaders taking part on the Second Crusade. The castle was dedicated to Saint George in the late 14th century by King John I.
Lisbon's ancient cathedral was built by Portugal's first king on the site of an old mosque in 1150 for the city's first bishop, the English crusader Gilbert of Hastings. From outside (with two bell towers and a splendid rose window) it resembles a medieval fortress, while inside it appears predominantly Romanesque, with a Gothic choir and ambulatory.
Jewish people were the advisors of Kings and Queens, doctors and even some of the explorers, geographers and mathematicians. The tour will start with a general introduction to the Jewish presence of the city, followed by a nice walk in the city centre passing by the site of the 1506 Jewish Massacre near the Church of Sao Domingos and the most well preserved Alfama Jewish and medieval Quarter. Alfama is a village within a city still made up of narrow streets, tiny squares, churches, and whitewashed houses with tile panels and wrought-iron balconies adorned with pots of flowers, drying laundry, and caged birds.
With the abolition of the Inquisition in 1821, families of Sephardic Jews decided to return to Portugal. Most of these Jews were merchants from Morocco and Gibraltar. These were people with a cultural level greatly above average. They could read, speak and write in liturgical Hebrew, Arabic, English and Hakitia, the Moroccan judeo-hispanic dialect.
We will continue our tour with a visit to the only Synagogue of Lisbon (Shaaré Tikvá), passing by the Commerce Square, the place where thousands of Jews were forced to be baptized in the 15th century.

Fado (translated as destiny
or fate) is a music genre which can be traced from the 1820s in Portugal, but
probably with much earlier origins. It is characterized by mournful tunes and
lyrics, often about the sea or the life of the poor. The music is usually linked
to the Portuguese word saudade, a word with no accurate English translation.
(It is a kind of longing, and conveys a complex mixture of mainly nostalgia,
but also sadness, pain, happiness and love). Some enthusiasts claim that Fado's
origins are a mixture of African slave rhythms with the traditional music of
Portuguese sailors and Arabic influence.

The Queluz Palace was begun
in 1747 by the Infante Dom Pedro (later to become Dom Pedro III) on the basis
of a former country mansion of the Marquises of Castelo Rodrigo. The Palace
(classified as a National Monument at that time began to be adapted for use
as a summer seat of the Royal Family.
The main body of the Palace,
erected by 1758, with its low sinuous forms and harmonious intimist decoration,
was completed after the marriage of the Infante Dom Pedro to Dona Maria Francisca,
the future Dona Maria I (1760), at which time the opulent interior halls were
embellished, as were the luxurious Palace gardens, which were endowed with Baroque
fountains, statues and places for recreation.
Sintra is one of the most
delightful places to be found in Portugal. With its extensive range of green
bills with its crags - the Serra de Sintra - so picturesquely situated and offering
stupendous views of the coastline with its impressive beauty, Sintra is indeed
"a garden of the earthly paradise". The artistic heritage of the Old Town, described
by Byron as "the most pleasing in Europe", also include valuable archaeological
remains, particularly from the Roman period, ancient manor houses, churches
of personalised artistic value and characteristic villages.
Cascais was a small fishing
port throughout early history as it lies protected from nature's elements at
the mouth of the Rio Tejo. When in 1870 the King, Luís I, chose to convert the
17th Century building of the Citadela into his summer residence Cascais soon
became a very fashionable town and aristocratic palaces and mansions followed.
The Citadel or Fort of Cascais is a 16th century fortress built to protect the
Bay of Cascais. Today, Cascais now boasts smart new Marina with lovely yachts.
Just outside the town is
the famous Boca do Inferno in which the sea on rougher days hammers into the
rock and creates a booming noise and a spectacular spray thus creating its name
which in English means "mouth of hell".
Estoril town was really
created from the curious needs of the two World Wars. It became a prime location
for European royal exiles forced to leave their own countries. It has been the
residence of King Umberto II of Italy, Juan de Bourbon of Spain, Karl Hapsburg
of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and King Carol of Rumania. The many modest yet
architecturally interesting mansions still remain to indicate their royal owners.
At its height its visitors referred to Estoril as the "Portuguese Riviera".
A Casino with wide surrounding avenues and spacious gardens, a golf course,
all of which soon appeared and then flanked by large hotels and impressive private
homes.

of various bodies built during the course of successive epochs on the so-called
"Chão da Oliva", the Paço da Vila de Sintra is one of the most important examples
of regal architecture in Portugal and for that reason is classified as a National
Monument. This gradual multiplication of buildings, with different styles, is
largely responsible for the enigmatic enchantment of this ancient palace, dominated
by great twin chimneys atop the kitchen that constitute as authentic ex-libris
of Sintra.

In 1148 Dom Afonso Henriques
recaptured the town of Obidos from the Moors. Later in 1282, the King of Portugal
Dom Dinis made a wedding present of the town Obidos to his new wife Dona Isabel.
It is charming small and fortified town that has been carefully preserved. Impressive
18th Century blue tiles line the walls within the southern gate that is appropriately
known as Porta da Vila and acts as the main entrance.
Alcobaça is a town that
became notable in the 12th Century when it was the site for the important construction
of Portugal's largest church. In the month of March in 1147 the fledgling King,
Dom Afonso Henriques, defeated the Moors by capturing the town of Santarém.
As a suitable memory to this splendid victory he vowed to build a magnificent
home for the Order of Cistercians. In the church are the tombs of King Pedro
I and his murdered mistress, Inês de Castro and with this is the tragic story
of the liaison between Pedro and his ever-lasting love for Inês.
The well-known fishing
village of Nazaré is now a small town and a popular holiday resort with a boulevard,
bars and restaurants. The inhabitants have retained some of their past as can
be still seen in their own particular style of costume and women still wearing
the traditional dress, a black kerchief and the seven flannel skirts.
Located in the region of
Leiria, the small town and Basilica of Fatima is one of the most visited Marian
Shrines in the world. Begun in 1928 and consecrated on 7 October 1953, its 15
altars are dedicated to the 15 mysteries of the Rosary.
The painting above the high
altar depicts the Message of Our Lady to the little shepherds, prepared by the
Angel of Portugal, through their encounter with Christ in the Eucharist. Scenes
of the apparitions are represented in stained glass, as well as invocations
from the Litany of Our Lady.
The Perpetual Adoration
Chapel is situated at the end of the colonnade, on the eastern side, this chapel
for perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament exposed, is a place of silent
prayer and adoration.
The Chapel of Apparitions
in the very heart of the Sanctuary. It was the first edifice constructed in
the Cova da Iria, at the place of Our Lady´s Apparitions. The exact spot is
marked by a marble pillar on which the Statue of Our Lady is placed.

Bairro Alto is a picturesque working class quarter dating from the 16th century that has traditionally been the city's bohemian haunt of artists and writers. Its grid of streets is quiet during the day, but is transformed at night into the city's vibrant nightlife quarter. Behind colorful and graffiti-ridden façades, is a variety of traditional and international restaurants, tourist-packed Fado Houses, and a multitude of bars and alternative shops that stay open until late at night. Neighboring Chiado is an elegant, sophisticated district of theaters, bookshops, old-style cafes, art nouveau jewelry shops and luxurious international names.
The church of Sao Roque with the plainest façade in Lisbon has one of the city's richest interiors. Each of the chapels is a masterpiece of Baroque art but the showpiece is the fourth one on the left, the "world's most expensive chapel."
Created through the efforts of Queen Amélia of Orleans and Bragança, wife of King Carlos I, the Royal Coach Museum, as it was then named, was inaugurated on May 23, 1905. The Museum is containing one of the largest collections of royal coaches in the world.
The Palace of the Marquesses of Fronteira was built in 1671 as a hunting pavilion to Dom João de Mascarenhas, 1st Marquis of Fronteira, who received his title from King Alfonso VI of Portugal for his loyalty to the House of Braganza in the Portuguese Restoration War. The palace is still located in a very quiet area, near the Monsanto Forest Park. The house and the garden have glazed tiles representing different themes such as battles or monkeys playing trumpets.
The ruins of the Do Carmo Gothic convent & church are evocative reminders of the devastation left by the 1755 earthquake. At the time of the earthquake it was the largest church in Lisbon, but today the roofless nave open to the sky is all that remains of the arches and rubble that caved in on the congregation as they were attending mass.

After leaving Lisbon, we will drive to Évora by the countryside roads of Alentejo, for a beautiful sightseeing tour by car. In Évora, we will have enough time to walk in its historical center and "feel" the atmosphere of this town. A world of unexpected contrasts awaits you in the unique city of Evora. It has a history more than two thousand years old. You’ll see labyrinthine streets, squares flooded with light, Renaissance fountains, Moorish courtyards and Gothic doorways and turrets. After reaching the walled city our guide will invite you to visit the enigmatic church of St. Francis and its Chapel of the Bones.
The tour will continue up the narrow streets of the old town reaching the Giraldo Square where the Inquisition once had its headquarters. You will also have time to explore the millennium old Roman Temple and have a glimpse at the 12th century cathedral. The distant 16th century Évora thrived with culture and tradition in its university as much as it still does today. During a short visit to the century old university courtyard, you will understand why Évora was once the second most important city of Portugal. The Romans created the elegant temple, battlements and baths, and the Moorish “Yeborah” influenced the urban network of the Mouraria district. Conquered in the time of King Afonso Henriques, the city captured the imagination of the kings of Portugal. King João II chose it for the wedding of his successor to the daughter of the Catholic Monarchs. One of the most ostentatious celebrations ever seen in the late Middle Ages. King Manuel I established his court in Évora as did King João III.
Nobility accompanied the monarchs and built luxurious palaces, families such as the Counts of Basto and the Dukes of Cadaval settled here. It was at this time that the Royal Palace and large convents were built, such as the Convent of São Francisco. The Royal Palace is an unusual combination of the Gothic style with the decorative influence of Islam, whilst the Convent of São Francisco is one of the finest churches in Portugal. The 16th Century was a golden age for the city. Artists from Flanders, Italy and Spain flocked here to make their mark. Masters of humanities came from Salamanca and Paris to join the University, which was founded in 1553 and still functions today. Due to its historical significance, UNESCO has classified Évora as a World Heritage site.

The Palace of Mafra was built in the 18th century by order of King João V (1689-1750) in fulfilment of a vow he made, to be blessed with an heir from his marriage to Maria Ana of Austria, or be cured of a serious illness, the Royal Convent and Palace of Mafra is the most important baroque monument in Portugal. All in limestone and marble from this region (Pêro Pinheiro and Sintra), the building covers an area of almost four hectares (37.790 m2), including 1.200 rooms, more than 4.700 doors and windows, 156 stairways and 29 inner yards and courtyards.
The Royal Convent was initially designed as a small convent for 13 monks, Mafra's project suffered successive changes, ending in a huge building of approximately 40.00 m2, with all the facilities for 300 Franciscans monks. The basilica is the central point of the main façade, flanked by two bell towers. It was designed by João Frederico Ludovice, a German goldsmith who, after a long stay in Italy, designed it in the Italian baroque style.
Ericeira is an enchanting village located about 11 kilometers west of the city of Mafra, in the region of Lisbon, Portugal. This village has become an excellent summer resort, which preserves a beautiful old neighborhood, with a labyrinth of adorable streets, and a picturesque fishing port located at the foot of a cliff. The area around the church is a beautiful place to lose yourself in its maze of narrow cobbled streets, flanked by charming white cottages with blue-painted corners, grouped around the parochial church whose interior boasts a coffered ceiling and tiles with colored edges.
