Bula! A wonderful trip to Fiji

Namale Resort and Spa, is a 5 Star All Inclusive resort, and one of the only that I know of in Fiji that includes all meals, drinks and activities.

The Oceanview Honeymoon and Deluxe Bure’s are located up on a cliff in the trees facing the ocean. They offer room service with phones in the room to call for the Bula Bus (golf cart) to pick you up and take you where ever you choose, either the spa on one end of the resort or the dining room on the other end of the resort. You have to take your shoes off to enter the dining room which makes you feel more like at home while dining, and when you are ready to leave, you find all the shoes placed in a nice order facing out so you just slip them on and off you go.

Food was incredible, service was typical Fijian style, my friend was getting antsy when the coffee didn’t come but 10 – 15 minutes after we had ordered it, but all is done in Fiji time. We were not in any hurry. The Kava Bowl Room has a two lane Bowling Ally, Wii Golf, Tennis on big screen, music on Ipod, and lot’s of games if you want to play some. You can watch Television and/or Movies in the Kava Bowl room as well.

Range of ages and types of people, honeymooners, girlfriends traveling together, me and another set of them, as well as celebrating anniversaries.

The beach is not swimmable with the coral but there are plenty of activities including snorkeling, horseback riding, hikes, tennis, golf on property.

Qamea Island is an hour puddle jumper flight from Vanua Levu where Namale is located to Taveuni, then a 20 minute off road drive to pick up the boat transfer off the beach to Qamea Island, about a 10 minute boat ride.  The Resort is a 4 Star property, with only local villagers working in the restaurant, kitchen and grounds.

Beautiful white-sand beaches are inviting and you can snorkel off of during high tide. The customary Bula Welcoming Singing Committee  was missing upon arrival to this island, but we were greeted by the General Manager, along with their receptionist to check us in. She walked us directly to our Bure, where our bags were waiting inside.

Bure was beachfront and a nice size.  It had an outdoor private shower and separate toilet with two sinks. Outdoor shower was lovely complete with heated towel rack.  Breakfast was buffet style with fruit, juice, muffins and freshly baked breads, with a menu to also order off of. The jam was cooked by the Fijians using a combination of papaya, mango, pineapple, stewed together, to die for. All meals at Qamea are included in the price. Alcohol and some activities cost extra, depending upon the day. Daily scheduled tours on board in dining room to see the night before what you wanted to do, and you put your room name on the board.

Due to it being a Boutique Luxury Island Resort, there were no phones in the room to order room service, which could be a downside for guests, especially the honeymooners.  Unfortunately, there is no welcome Bula singing committee, and the Wifi in the rooms is offered at an additional cost, but is very spotty. Bures are pretty close together you can hear your neighbors, so screaming honeymooners beware!

Liku Liku is definitely a 5 Star resort with great beaches, again with the tide high, swimmable and great snorkeling right outside the Bures.

Ferry service from Denaura is a two hour beautiful Catamaran ride, with stops at 5 outer islands before getting to Malolo Island.  Most island resorts do not have deep enough water to pull up to, only Mana Island does, so the resorts taxi the guests to and from the Catamaran to the Island resorts.

We arrived with the Bula Welcome Committee singing at the pier. The resort includes all meals, alcohol and optional tours cost extra.  Bures are very spacious with large bathrooms, outdoor and indoor showers and separate toilet.  Each Bure is oceanfront with direct access to the beach except for  4  that are on the right of the lobby area, so if booking Liku Liku, make sure you inquire about the location of the Bure.

The Beachfront Bures all have a private covered day bed on the front patio, along with a plunge pool. They’re equipped with Ipod station, and coffee/tea maker.  Be sure you know how to use a coffee press! The resort holds 90 guests total and has and outdoor and indoor restaurant. Sailboats, paddle boards and snorkels all complimentary.

Unfortunately, there is NO ROOM SERVICE!  Not a plus for a 5 star resort.  Ants and bugs are their reasoning for this negative.  I’m not convinced it’s a very good reason, as other resorts do offer room service. But as they say in Fiji, Siga na Lega!! (No worries!)
