Last month, we shared a few choice wines available with our House Select beverage package. There are simply so many excellent options, we wanted to tell you about two great Italian wines this month. Who’s ready for a cruise along the Italian Riviera?
Danzante Pinot Grigio, Delle Venezie IGT, Venezie, Italy
Danzante Pinot Grigio is sourced from Trentino Alto Adige, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, the three northeastern regions of Italy collectively known as the “Tre Venezie.” With its relatively high altitude and cool summers, and the warm currents from the Adriatic, this region allows Pinot Grigio to fully express its potential, resulting in a wine that reveals intense perfumes and a silky texture.
The grapes were hand-selected at optimum ripeness in September and the wine was aged in stainless steel, not oak, as it is designed to be consumed while young and fresh.
WINE PROFILE: Pinot Grigio, 12.5% ABV
WINEMAKER’S NOTE/TASTING NOTES: Danzante Pinot Grigio boasts a luminous straw yellow with generous gold highlights. The bouquet is rich with aromas of tropical fruit such as papaya and pineapple, followed by delicate floral notes. The aromatic fruitiness continues into a generous, full-bodied palate that is wonderfully fresh and lively. A dynamic finish ends on a subtle note of crisp fruit.
SERVED BEST WITH: Delightful as an aperitif. Pairs nicely with grilled vegetables, seafood first courses, and light, salted fish.
Frescobaldi Castiglioni Sangiovese, Chianti, Tuscany, Italy
The wines of Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi come from 700 years of passion and experience with a select territory that has become the ideal location for superb wines. Thanks to its extraordinary local climate, Chianit Castiglioni impeccably mirrors the qualities of its terroir.
WINE PROFILE: 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot, 13% ABV
WINEMAKER’S NOTE/TASTING NOTES: The color of this beautiful Chianti is purple red with violet reflections. On the nose, dark cherry is prevalent, followed by dried plum and concluding with crisp, sugared almond notes. The palate is soft, warm, vinous, pleasantly
balanced, and shows supple tannins and lengthy progression.
SERVED BEST WITH: Full-flavored dishes such as pappardelle with meat sauce, roast chicken, sautéed beef with vegetables and medium-aged cheeses.
